Master Sergeant John K. Romano Master Sgt. John K. Romano is a clarinetist in the Concert Band, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. A native of Bluefield, West Virginia, he joined the Air Force in 1992 as a clarinetist with the Band of the Golden West, Travis Air Force Base, California. A graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Va., Romano earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 1991. During his undergraduate studies, he was the recipient of the Shenandoah Talent Scholarship. His former teachers include Stephen Johnston and Mark Brandenburg (San Jose Opera). He has studied additionally with Don Carroll (San Francisco Symphony) and Anthony Gigliotti, and has performed in master classes with Rosario Mazzeo and Charles Neidich. While assigned to the Band of the Golden West, Romano performed with the Berkeley and Solano Symphonies, and the California Wind Orchestra and Performing Arts Chamber Orchestra. In 1997, the Foundation for Art and Musical Excellence awarded Romano a Young Artist Scholarship.
