Senior Master Sergeant David Hartung

Senior Master Sergeant W. David Hartung serves as the Superintendent for the Band of the Pacific as of June, 2019.

Joining the Air Force in 1996, Sergeant Hartung was assigned to the Band of Mid-America at Scott AFB, IL where he was a founding member of the acclaimed Tuba/Euphonium group Four Star Brass while also the Director of Productions and Auditions. In 2009 Sergeant Hartung was assigned to the United States Air Forces in Europe Band where he led the Five Star Brass quintet and served as Section Chief Administration and Unit Training Manager. While serving with the USAFE Band he was named 2011 Non-commissioned Officer of the Year for the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Public Affairs. SMSgt Hartung returned to the Band of Mid-America in 2012 serving as the first NCOIC of Airlifter Brass and Phoenix Brass. Additionally he held the positions of Director of Outreach, Section Chief Resources, Section Chief Readiness and First Sergeant.

Originally hailing from Frankfort, Ky, SMSgt Hartung pursued his undergraduate degree at Morehead State and transferred graduating with his Bachelors of Music degree from the University of Kentucky.  He furthered his education by obtaining his Masters degree from Webster University. In addition to his academic pursuits, SMSgt Hartung has performed with the Radio Orchestra Kaiserslautern (Germany), German Brass, Louisville Orchestra, the New Sousa Band, Saint Louis Philharmonic and currently leads the acclaimed Arch City Brass. His teachers include Sam Pilafian, Patrick Sheridan, Earle Louder, Mark Moore, Jerry Young and Skip Gray.
