Master Sgt. Jim Woolf is an audio engineer with The United States Air Force Band, Washington, D.C. Originally from Phillips, WI, he began his Air Force career as an audio engineer with the Band of Mid-America. He joined the Band in Washington in 2016.
Prior to enlisting, Sgt. Woolf worked and lived in Brooklyn, New York. In New York City, he wore many hats working as a director of production and technology for Gallant Entertainment Inc., freelance audio/recording engineer, percussionist, and an art handler/carpenter.
Sgt. Woolf holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in recording technology, and a Master of Music in percussion performance from New York University. He studied recording technology under Mr. Wally Messner, and percussion under Dr. Alison Shaw, Jonathan Haas, Simon Boyar, James Saporito, and Josh Quillen. He also undertook an independent study of the music of Brazil, traveling to Brazil to study with Percussionist Vina Lacerda.
