Master Sergeant Sandra Johnson

Master Sgt. Sandra Johnson is a bassoonist with the Concert Band, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. Originally from Centerville, Minnesota, her Air Force career began in 2002.

Johnson attended Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, from 1996-1998. She then attended the Juilliard School until her graduation in 2002 with a Bachelor of Music degree. While at Juilliard, Johnson was a concerto competition finalist, a Gluck Community Service Fellowship participant, and a participant at the Aspen and National Repertory Orchestra music festivals. She has studied with Whitney Crockett, David Carroll and John Miller. In addition, Johnson has worked with such famous talent as Kurt Masur, James Conlan and Emmanuel Ax, and has performed with the Juilliard Orchestra, the Juilliard Symphony and the New Jersey Symphony.

Johnson is currently principal bassoonist with the Apollo Chamber Orchestra and second bassoonist with the Fairfax Symphony. She has also been a soloist with The U.S. Air Force Band at the National Air and Space Museum and Georgetown University. Johnson is also a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher and enjoys sharing yoga with her colleagues as well as students at Refresh Yoga Center in Old Town Alexandria, VA.
