Master Sgt. Ani A. Berberian is a clarinetist with the Concert Band, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. A native of Brookings, South Dakota, she joined the Air Force in 2003. Prior to joining The U.S. Air Force Band, Berberian was a member of the U.S. Air Force Academy Band in Colorado performing as a clarinetist with the Concert Band and Academy Winds from 2003 to 2011.
Berberian holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in clarinet performance from Michigan State University, a Master of Music degree from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music/German from South Dakota State University. She has served on the faculties at the University of Colorado-Boulder, Missouri State University, Concordia University and the Missouri Fine Arts Academy. An international soloist and chamber musician, Berberian has performed as a featured guest recitalist at several International Clarinet Association Conferences and numerous U.S. clarinet symposia. As a member of the Missouri Chamber Players, she appeared in Norway, Sweden and Poland, performing in such venues as the Chopin Academy and Stockholm's Samtida Music Festival. Berberian has presented clinics on topics dealing with chamber music performance, clarinet pedagogy and contemporary clarinet techniques at various colleges and conservatories throughout the United States and Europe. An advocate of new music, she has performed for composers Frank Ticheli, Joan Tower, Libby Larsen and Michael Murray. She is also featured on the compact disc recording, "Black Swirls," which highlights the works of Eric Mandat.
