Senior Master Sgt. Matthew Nudell is a trombonist with the Concert Band, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. Originally from Hettinger, North Dakota, his Air Force career began in 2009.
Before joining the Air Force, SMSgt Nudell was a freelance musician and teacher in Dallas, TX, performing with numerous ensembles, including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
A 2005 graduate of St. Olaf College, Nudell earned a Bachelor of Music degree in music education. While at St. Olaf, he soloed with the St. Olaf Orchestra and was a featured soloist on the St. Olaf Band's tour of Norway. In 2007, he graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, with a Master of Music degree in trombone performance. His principal teachers include Paul Niemisto, Tom Ashworth and John Kitzman.
Air Force career highlights include performing for NBC's TODAY, marching in two Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parades, and deploying to the Middle East as the superintendent of operations for the U.S. Air Forces Central Command Band.
