Senior Master Sgt. Aaron Moats is the Superintendent of Marketing and Outreach where he supervises the Band’s social media, graphics, photography, website content, broadcast media operations and marketing activities. Prior to his assignment in Marketing and Outreach, he served as a trombonist with the Ceremonial Brass for 16 years. Originally from Kettering, Ohio, his Air Force career began in 2003.
Before joining the Air Force, Sgt. Moats was the winner of the American Trombone Workshop’s solo competition, a finalist at the Concert Artists Guild and Chamber Music in Yellow Springs Competitions, and a semi-finalist at the Steven Zellmer and Fischoff Competitions. In addition to serving on the faculty of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, he has participated in Chamber Music America’s Rural Residency Program, and has given guest-artist performances at the Eastman School of Music, Northwestern University, and Carnegie Melon University, among others. As an active freelance musician, he has performed with most of the D.C area’s music institutions, including the National Symphony Orchestra, Wolf Trap and Baltimore Operas and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
Sgt. Moats earned a Bachelor of Music degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music and a Master of Music degree from the University of Maryland. He spent his summers performing at the Round Top Festival, Chautauqua Institution and the Heidelberger Schlossfestspiele.
