MSgt Matthew B. Murray


Master Sgt. Matthew Murray is a double bassist and bass guitarist with the Singing Sergeants, The United States Air Force Band, Washington, D.C. In addition to his performing duties, he is a marketing representative for the Singing Sergeants and the primary squadron representative for operations security. Originally from Winona, Minnesota, Murray's career in the Air Force began in March 2000.

Murray earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, and a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts. He has studied Double Bass with Bruce Bransby, Donald Palma, Jim Orleans and David Stallsmith and has worked with many esteemed conductors including Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Gunther Schuller and Kurt Masur. Murray has performed with a number of orchestras including Florida West Coast, South West Florida and New World Symphony Orchestras.

In addition to being a core member of the Singing Sergeants combo, Murray regularly performs with the Concert Band and assists in the Air Force Strings and Max Impact. In 2013, He deployed with a seven-member ensemble from The U.S. Air Force Band that traveled to Quatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan in support of diplomatic and troop morale initiatives as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
