Master Sergeant Julia Cuevas

Master Sgt. Julia Cuevas is an alto vocalist with the Singing Sergeants, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. A native of Annandale, Virginia, her career in the Air Force began in April 2005.


A 2001 graduate of Virginia Tech, Cuevas earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in voice, and was active in the Early Music Ensemble, Chamber Singers, Roanoke Opera and a freelance Irish band. She continued her education with graduate work at the University of Colorado at Boulder, again involving herself in the Early Music Ensemble and Chamber Choir.

Cuevas has deployed twice to the Middle East with the AFCENT Band, in 2010 and 2015. She traveled to remote areas of many countries to perform for those stationed far from home as well as area residents and coalition troops. She is the founder of Celtic Aire, the premier Celtic ensemble of the Air Force Band. Cuevas has appeared in recital at the Arts Club of Washington, Church of the Epiphany and other D.C. area venues as well as soloist with the Boulder Chorale and the Northern Virginia Chorale. She was a soloist accompanying Irish Tenor Ronan Tynan, and has provided small-group back-up vocals for Carrie Underwood, Al Jarreau, Ruben Stoddard, Shemekia Copeland, Melinda Doolittle, Kris Allen and Melina Leon.

Her teachers have included Nancy McDuffie, Kathryn Hearden, Patrick Mason and Claudia Catania.
