Senior Master Sgt. Karl P. Sweedy is the Superintendent of Operations for The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. He is responsible for oversight of scheduling, resource management, legal and policy compliance, and customer service for the 184-member unit. Prior to his current assignment, Sgt. Sweedy served as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Operations and as a trumpeter for the Ceremonial Brass. Originally from Moline, Illinois, Sweedy’s Air Force career began in 2003.
Before joining the Air Force, he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 2001 from The Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia, PA.
Career highlights include participation in five presidential inaugurations, the state funerals of former Presidents Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, and George H.W. Bush, and numerous appearances on NBC’s TODAY.
