SMSgt Brett Edward Miller

Senior Master Sgt. Brett Edward Miller is principal French hornist with the Concert Band, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. Originally from Boardman, Ohio, he joined the Air Force in 2002. In addition to performing with the Concert Band, he is the NCOIC of Concert Band Operations.

Miller earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Youngstown State University in 1999. He went on to earn a Master of Music degree from Indiana University in 2001 and a doctorate degree from the University of Maryland in 2007. His teachers include Greg Miller, Marty Hackleman, Michael Hatfield, Bill Slocum, David Jolley, Phil Munds, and Jerome Ashby. In addition to his Air Force performing, he is a member of Brass Mosaic and is a highly-regarded composer, having published over 30 works for various brass solo instruments and chamber ensembles.

Highlights of his Air Force Career include performing in the funerals for Presidents Ronald W. Reagan and Gerald R. Ford and Inaugurals for Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama and White House arrival ceremonies for the Prime Ministers of Japan, China and the UK and for Queen Elizabeth II. Miller spent the first thirteen years of his Air Force Band tenure with the Ceremonial Brass, spending his last two years with the Brass serving as the unit's Director of Operations.
