Technical Sgt. Emily Foster is an oboist and english hornist with the Concert Band, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. Originally from Newark, Delaware, her Air Force career began in June 2013.
Prior to joining the Air Force, Foster earned her Bachelor of Music degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas where she studied with Robert Atherholt. From 2007 to 2009, she was the principal oboist of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and toured with the orchestra in Brazil. In 2008, she was the concerto competition winner with the Newark Symphony and Kennett Symphony Orchestra, performing Marcello's Oboe Concerto with both orchestras. Foster has studied privately with Jonathan Blumenfeld from the Philadelphia Orchestra and has performed in the summer festivals of Boston University Tanglewood Institute, the Texas Music Festival, the Banff Music Festival, as well as the National Repertory Orchestra.
