Master Sgt. Emily R. Snyder is an oboist and English hornist with the Concert Band, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. Originally from Newark, Delaware, her career in the Air Force began in 2013.
Before joining the Air Force, she was the principal oboist of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and toured with the orchestra in Brazil. In 2008, she was the concerto competition winner with the Newark Symphony and Kennett Symphony Orchestras, performing Alessandro Marcello's “Oboe Concerto in C minor” with both orchestras. A graduate of The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, Snyder received her Bachelor of Music degree in oboe performance, studying with Robert Atherholt.
Sgt. Snyder studied privately with Jonathan Blumenfeld from the Philadelphia Orchestra and performed at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, the Texas Music Festival, the Banff Music Festival, and the National Repertory Orchestra.
