A1C Philip Castro


Airman Philip Castro performs on piano in the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. 

Originally from McAllen, Texas, Airman Castro earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX where he studied with Dr. Jason Kwak.  He received his Master of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy and a Graduate Certificate in Jazz Performance from University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC where he studied with Dr. Joseph Rackers and Bert Ligon.

Prior to joining the Air Force, Airman Castro worked as a music teacher at Northside Christian Academy in Lexington, SC, where he taught general music and directed the Lower School musical programs.  He also maintained a private studio with over 30 students and enjoyed freelancing as a soloist and accompanist.  Prior to his teaching position in SC, Amn Castro was the Piano Program Coordinator for the IDEA Public School in Edinburg, TX. 

Airman Castro began his military career in 2016 serving with the Army Reserves.  He served as an 88M with the 414th Transportation Company and later as a pianist for the 208th Army Band.
