Airman First Class Taylor Keown is a percussionist with the USAF Band of the West and performs with the Dimensions in Blue Jazz Ensemble, Warhawk, Concert Band, and the Ceremonial Marching Band. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, A1C Keown graduated from Cottonwood High School in 2010 before starting his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Utah, primarily studying with Douglas Wolf, George Brown, and Dr. Mike Sammons. He played in every musical group available to him, ranging from The University of Utah Drumline to chamber music.
Upon completion, he was offered a graduate assistantship at Texas Christian University and moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he studied with Dr. Brian A. West, Joey Carter, and Dr. Richard Gipson. In addition to his graduate responsibilities and performing schedule, he taught at several high schools in the DFW area and initially learned about the military musician career field.
Prior to joining the Air Force, A1C Keown worked as the Percussion Specialist at Jasper High School in Plano, Texas, where he instructed the drumline, methods class, percussion ensembles, assisted the Plano West Senior High percussion program, and maintained a large private studio in Plano ISD. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, reading and watching/playing basketball.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (more commonly known as “The Mormon Church”), he decided to fulfill a two-year service mission after completing his freshman year of college, and was assigned to the Ukraine Donetsk Mission, located in Eastern Ukraine.
