2nd Lt David Neil C. Regner

Second Lieutenant David Neil C. Regner, a native of West Orange, NJ, serves as the Flight Commander and Assistant Conductor for the USAF Heritage of America Band and the Flight Commander for the USAF Heartland of America Band.  Lieutenant Regner earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Rutgers University where he studied saxophone with Dr. Paul Cohen and conducting with Prof. Darryl Bott.  He continued his studies at Northwestern University where he earned a Master of Music degree in Conducting as a student of Dr. Mallory Thompson.

Prior to joining the Air Force, Lieutenant Regner served for four years as a band director at Arlington High School in LaGrangeville, NY.  In his tenure, he served as the director of three concert bands, two jazz ensembles, the pit orchestra, and was also the assistant director of the state champion winter percussion ensemble and marching band.  Ensembles under his direction consistently earned excellent and superior ratings at state and regional festivals.  In addition, Lieutenant Regner was also an avid freelance music director for musical theater.  With over 50 productions to his credit, he has worked with professional, university, high school, middle school, community, and educational theater companies throughout New York and New Jersey and has been nominated for outstanding music direction awards for several of his projects.

As a conductor, Lieutenant Regner has been highlighted by two premier bands of the armed forces, The United States Army “Pershing’s Own” and The United States Air Force Band.  In July of 2016 he was one of six conductors to be featured in the US Army Band’s annual “Conductors Showcase Concert” where he worked with Colonel Timothy Holtan and Prof. Craig Kirchhoff.  And in June of 2017 he was one of three conductors to be selected for the National Band Association Young Conductor Mentor Project.  In this intensive workshop, Lieutenant Regner worked with some of the career’s foremost experts including Colonel Larry Lang, Paula Crider, Anthony Maiello, Mark Camphouse, Andrew Boysen, and Timothy Mahr.  The culminating concert featured the USAF Band and demonstrated the Air Force’s high level of excellence as well as the importance and value of creativity, collaboration, and innovation.
