SrA Edward Knoeckel is pianist with the Air Force Band of the West. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Connecticut in piano performance under the instruction of Neal Larrabee. He also studied composition with Daniel Kellogg, and Earl MacDonald.
Edward completed a Master’s degree in composition from the University of South Florida with a minor in music theory. At USF he taught a range of music classes and was an accompanist in the modern dance studios. He was the pianist with the Disney Collegiate All-Star Band and keyboardist for the Epcot Center and Downtown Disney bands. He studied music theory at USF with Prof’s Sang-Hie Lee and Jill Brasky. Edward Knoeckel earned an Artist Diploma in composition from the Hartt School of Music, studying with Stephen Gryc. He has been musical director for theater productions and created sound design for stage plays. His work has also taken him into creating music for small businesses.
In 2010 Edward enlisted in the Army National Guard and was pianist with the 102nd , 29thD and 257th Army Bands. He received an Army Achievement Medal for service as music director. He completed the Army Advanced Leader Course at Fort Indiantown Gap with honors and was promoted to rank of Sergeant. He taught high school and college while serving in the National Guard. He completed his Master’s in Education from the University of Bridgeport in 2014 studying with conductor Frank Martignetti. Edward has experience designing program performance standards and online curriculum design.
Edward received a doctoral degree in music composition from George Mason University. He studied composition with Mark Camphouse, and Jesse Guessford. His dissertation was on Narrative Archetypes in the Music of Nino Rota. At Mason he received the President’s Award for Teaching Excellence and was voted Outstanding Adjunct Faculty by the School of Music.
In 2017 Edward enlisted in the active duty Air Force Band of the West upon qualifying in a national audition. He has performed around the country for millions while representing the Air Force through music. As a member of the Air Force band he received Unit MVP Award, Unit Airman of the Quarter, Wingstaff Agency Airman of the Quarter (Spring and Fall 2019), Unit Airman of the Year, Wing Staff Agency Airman of the Year and an Air Force Achievement Medal. He lives with his wife and three children.
