Technical Sgt. Mike Wittrien is the bassist with Max Impact, The United States Air Force Band, Washington D.C. A native of Newton, New Jersey, Wittrien graduated from Kittatinny Regional High School in 1998, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in music from Lebanon Valley College in 2002. He joined the Air Force in 2016.

From 2016 to 2018, Wittrien was assigned to the United States Air Force Band of the West in San Antonio, Texas, where he had the privilege of serving in many of their ensembles as a bassist and musical director. In 2018, he deployed to the Middle East supporting Operation Inherent Resolve with the pop group, Top Flight, performing in Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Djibouti and Iraq- a first in 10 years for an AFCENT Band.

Prior to joining the Air Force, Wittrien spent 11 years in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he held the bass chair at the American Music Theatre, a celebrity concert venue, and maintained a busy freelance performance schedule in the central Pennsylvania region. He studied formally with Jim Miller, Ron Thomas, Rufus Reid, Anthony Wellington, Nick Browne and Jim Kalson. Informally, he has been stealing his best licks off of his friends for years.
