TSgt Cameron S. Kayne


Technical Sgt. Cameron Kayne is a double bassist and bass guitarist with the Airmen of Note, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. Originally from Williamsville, New York, his Air Force career began in 2013.

Kayne started his musical life at a very early age. His father is currently an adjunct music faculty member at SUNY Fredonia, and his grandfather was an accomplished jazz pianist having performed with the great Louis Armstrong. Kayne started playing professionally during high school with such notable upstate New York musicians as Don Menza and Peter Malinverni. He was also awarded back to back Downbeat Student music awards in 2006 and 2007. While attending SUNY Purchase College, Kayne toured southern France and Monaco with an independent Jazz Quartet made up of musicians he had met in New York City at the time. He also performed with trumpeter Jim Rotondi and was awarded the Joe Williams Scholarship. Upon graduating from College in 2011, Kayne freelanced and taught Jazz Bass as an adjunct faculty member at Villa Maria College (Buffalo-Western NY-Upstate).

Kayne has performed with Ralph Lalama, Bobby Militello, Bruce Johnstone, Joe Gransden, Bill Dobbins and Randy Johnston. Music venue and festival performances include The 55 bar, The Iridium, The Blue Note, Smalls Jazz Club, Fat Cat, Cleopatra's Needle, Puppets Jazz Bar, Harlem Club Creole, Smoke Jazz Club, and the Rochester Jazz Festival.

Kayne has studied with such influential bassists including Paul LaDuca, Todd Coolman, John Patitucci, Jeff Campbell, Scott Colley, Doug Weiss, Hans Glawischnig, and David Wong.

Kayne’s Air Force career highlights include Jazz Heritage Series concerts with guest artists Terrell Stafford, Cyrus Chestnut and Peter Erskine and performances at the Hartford, Atlanta, and Detroit Jazz festivals. He has also performed on numerous Airmen of Note studio recordings including “Airmen of Note”, and “Veterans of Jazz”. In 2015, Kayne deployed with select members of the Air Force Band who traveled to Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan and Afghanistan in support of diplomatic and troop morale initiatives as a part of Operation Resolute Support.
