Air Force Band's 4th of July Celebrations

  • Published
With Independence Day right around the corner, The United States Air Force Band is gearing up to celebrate our great nation! The many musical flights of The U.S. Air Force Band will perform multiple live and televised concerts in New York City and Washington, D.C., representing the Air Force on our nation's birthday.

Come out to hear the Airmen of Note, July 4th at 8 p.m. at the Air Force Memorial. Show up early to get a good spot and bring the whole family to enjoy a fantastic musical celebration of our great nation! This free "Star Spangled Spectacular" will include everything from big band era dance music to pop and R&B to keep everyone's toes tapping. After the show, hang out and enjoy a great view of the Washington D.C. fireworks show! Leading up to the 4th, the Airmen of Note will have a couple of events over the weekend. Senior Master Sergeant Kevin Burns, a trumpeter in the Note, highlights these concerts: "First, on Friday, July 1st we'll be performing 3 sets later in the evening at the [newly renovated] National Air & Space Museum. On July 2nd, we perform at 7pm at the beautiful National Harbor just outside DC. The whole weekend promises to offer a wonderful choice of July 4th activities."

Members of four of the Band's flights will travel to New York to participate in the Independence Day festivities there, as well as other local events. On July 3rd, the Singing Sergeants will perform the National Anthem at noon for a Major League Soccer (MLS) "Subway Series" Soccer Game, NYC Football Club versus the New York Red Bulls. Members of the Ceremonial Brass will perform on the TODAY Show for the 17th time since 1998. Tune in during the 9-10 a.m. block (EST) on July 4 to see the flight step outside of its ceremonial role. Master Sergeant Daniel Valadie, Drum Major of the Ceremonial Brass, describes the day's events as an opportunity to "inspire patriotism and represent the pride and professionalism of our service members live on national television." The big finish of the day will come at 8 p.m., as the Air Force Orchestra and Singing Sergeants perform during the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular, aired live on NBC. Check your local listings and be sure to join us as we celebrate America's birthday!
