The Advancing Innovation through Music (AIM) program began in 2013 when sequestration severely limited the Band’s ability to travel outside of Washington, DC. The program grew quickly and now includes over 75 performances which reach more than 22,000 students annually.
Designed to build positive relationships with educational communities, the AIM program allows Band members to work side by side with students of all ages, in small environments such as clinics and master classes, as well as in large scale assemblies.
During an AIM concert, students will sit in with the band and chorus to perform a predetermined selection. Guest conductors are often featured, usually from the sponsoring educational institution. This type of interaction fosters a sense of inclusion and supports our efforts to build partnerships with the local community.
Opportunities also exist for high school and collegiate band, orchestra and choral directors to visit the U.S. Air Force Band with their students when visiting our nation’s capital.
Since the program's humble beginnings, the Band's AIM program has been a huge success. To request an AIM event at your school, or to visit us at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, DC, please contact Master Sgt. David Kucharski at firstname.lastname@example.org or 202-767-5688.
