Washington, D.C. -- After returning from a jam-packed few days at the JEN (Jazz Education Network) conference in Dallas, the Airmen of Note have been getting much positive feedback from the jazz community.
The band dazzled audiences with a total of three clinics and three performances for some of the industry leaders in Jazz Education. More buzz, however, was directed at the Airmen of Note’s latest album which was unveiled at their exhibition booth. The Best-of Jazz Heritage Series album met wide critical acclaim from fans at the convention. In addition to this compilation album, the Airmen of Note’s other recent studio recording was distributed at JEN as well, the unique Veterans of Jazz. Both printed in 2017, these recordings display the versatility, power, and grace of the legendary 67-year old ensemble.
The Jazz Heritage Series recording provides a variety of selections ranging from classic standards like September Song (featuring famed trumpeter Doc Severinsen) and Round Midnight (featuring trombonist Slide Hampton), to the cutting edge compositions of featured artists Kurt Rosenwinkel (The Next Step) and Walt Weiskopf (See the Pyramid).
While the incredible collection of guest performances is getting a lot of spins around the country, the studio album is also getting a fair share of airplay. Veterans of Jazz, in a short amount of time, has been climbing radio charts. It currently stands at number 47 on the Jazz Week album chart with the highest debut numbers out of any album listed. This collection of compositions penned by, or made famous by jazz legends who served is a wonderful tribute to the canon of jazz as well as the brave men and women whose shoulders we stand upon.
