Technical Sgt. Matthew Stookey is the tenor saxophonist with the Concert Band. Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, he joined The United States Air Force Band in 2023.
Prior to joining the Air Force, Sgt. Stookey was an active teacher and performer in the greater Dallas, Texas area where he maintained a private studio, and served as a site coordinator for The Young Saxophonist’s Institute. He previously held the position of alto saxophonist with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra, and has performed with the Garland, Arlington, Las Colinas, Plano, and McKinney Symphony Orchestras. Conference performances include the Texas Music Educators Association annual conference, the International Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, and multiple North American Saxophone Alliance regional conferences.
Sgt. Stookey has earned a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Master of Music in saxophone performance from Ithaca College. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of North Texas. His primary teachers include Timothy Ishii, Andrew Dahlke, Steven Mauk, and Eric Nestler.
