Master Sergeant John Rider is a native of Honeoye Falls, New York.  He received his Bachelor of Music degree in 1994 and a Master of Music degree in 1996, both from the University of North Texas.  Sergeant Rider enlisted in the Texas Air National Guard in March 1992 for duty with the 531st Air Force Band of the Texas Air National Guard. He enlisted in the Air Force in July 1998 and was assigned to the Air Force Band of Flight at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

The professional credits of Sergeant Rider include serving as adjunct faculty at the University of North Texas, the University of Alaska-Anchorage, Wright State University, Central State University, and Sinclair Community College.  He has performed with the Anchorage Opera, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Bluebonnet Brass, Fort Worth Symphony, Lake Cities Symphony, Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, Richardson Symphony, Wichita Falls Symphony, Chautauqua Youth Orchestra and the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. He has been a featured soloist with the Sinclair Community Concert Band, Wills Point High School Concert Band, 531st Air Force Band of the Texas Air National Guard, Honeoye Falls Community Concert Band, Lake Cities Community Concert Band, Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Air Force Band of Flight. He has served as a clinician for the Blast of Brass Chamber Music Conference in Dallas, Texas. He currently lives in San Antonio with his wife and four daughters.
