DOHA, Qatar -- Jumping to their feet, the Qatar Academy middle schoolers cheered for more as the Full Spectrum band played their last note of the day, showcasing popular American Music.
The Air Forces Central Command band “Full Spectrum” performed for middle school age students Sept. 14 to strengthen community relations here.
“The students walked out talking about how awesome and how great the performance was,” said Benjamin Tomczak, Middle Years Program music teacher. “I want my students to enjoy music and have a great experience with musicians that perform around the world, and what better group than AFCENT’s Full Spectrum!”
These musicians provide a tool to keep troop morale up and use music to bridge language and cultures in the Central Command Area of Responsibility.
“I think it's very important for us to bridge cultural gaps with music especially since we are another face of the Air Force and can be used to help bring our countries together through music,” said Master Sgt. Jeffrey Saunders, AFCENT band superintendent of operations and logistics. “Once we do that, we can hopefully unite through other endeavors.”
In addition to performing throughout the day, the Airmen answered questions about being professional musicians in the Air Force and held a mentoring session for aspiring musical students. According to Tomczak, the students were happy to receive one-on-one lessons from the professional musicians.
