Band of the Northeast celebrates Veterans’ Day
The day began with performances for some our nation's most deserving citizens; our Veterans. Two ensembles performed in Veteran's homes across the state of Pennsylvania. "In Flight", our Woodwind Quintet, led by Senior Airman Julia Fickes, performed at the Southeastern Veteran's Center in Spring City, PA. The ensemble performed early in the morning as the residents ate breakfast, and later in the day for an 11:00 am Veteran's Recognition ceremony. Following the ceremony, the Woodwind Quintet visited floors of the center in order to perform for bedridden and immobile Veterans.
Simultaneously, the trombone quartet performed for the residents of the Lebanon, PA Veterans' Hospital. The Trombone Quartet, led by Technical Sergeant Sattazahn, roamed the floors of the Veterans' Hospital, visited day rooms, and performed patriotic favorites for the residents on a variety of floors and prior to the afternoon social activity.
"Brass in Blue", the Band of the Northeast's Brass Quintet, was honored to participate in the yearly Veterans' Day recognition ceremony at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, PA. The ceremony included a performance of patriotic favorites followed by a wreath ceremony. The ceremony was open to the public and attended by many guests of the National Constitution Center. Following the wreath laying ceremony, the quintet continued to perform a mix of patriotic, jazz, and popular music favorites for the general public.
The many performances by the Band of the Northeast on Veterans' Day allow the band to honor and recognize our Nation's most deserving citizens. In addition, the performances help the public to celebrate and recognize the efforts and sacrifices put forth by our men and women in uniform, both past and present.
