Washington, D.C. --

Memorial Day serves as an opportunity to pause and remember the sacrifices of more than one million Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who gave their lives to secure our freedoms. This year, the United States Air Force Band will pay tribute to the fallen in two separate events in the National Capital Region.

The U.S. Air Force Symphony Orchestra will once again participate in the National Memorial Day Choral Festival, held on Sunday, May 27, at 3:00 p.m., at the Kennedy Center. Designed to honor our nation's veterans and fallen heroes through a musical tribute, this grand concert will feature 300 singers representing choirs from throughout the United States, as they join with the Air Force Symphony Orchestra to foster greater attention toward and observe the true meaning of Memorial Day as a national holiday.

The program will include a “World War I Medley” in tribute to the Centennial Commemoration, "Jupiter" from Holst's “The Planets,” Copland's “The Promise of Living,” "Agnus Dei" from Fauré’s “Requiem,” as well as patriotic selections including “Hymn to the Fallen” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

FREE tickets for this event are available from the Presenter Only. For further information or to reserve tickets, please contact Music Celebrations International at (800) 395-2036 or visit http://www.kennedy-center.org/calendar/event/RSXAR

Also on Sunday, May 27, the Singing Sergeants will once again be part of the National Memorial Day concert, at the U.S. Capitol, which airs live on PBS at 8 p.m. This award-winning television event is one of the highest-rated programs on public television and honors the military service and sacrifice of all the men and women in uniform, their families and especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The Singing Sergeants will be featured with their sister services in a joint service choral ensemble at this Memorial Day celebration on the West Lawn of the United States Capitol Building. The evening will include classic choral works and patriotic favorites.
