Medal of Honor
The 2011 Ellis Island Award Ceremony honored SSgt Salvatore Giunta, pictured with the band. He is the first living person to receive the United States Armed Forces' highest decoration for valor, the Medal of Honor, for actions that occurred since the Vietnam War.
