Technical Sgt. Elena Murphy is a clarinetist with the Concert Band, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. Originally from Annapolis, MD, her career in the Air Force began in 2021.
Before joining the Air Force, she lived and freelanced in Houston, TX and maintained an active private lessons studio. Her students frequently made top chairs in All State, Area, Region and Honor bands. Murphy has performed with the Houston Symphony, the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico, the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the National Repertory Orchestra, Texas Music Festival, Round Top Festival Institute, and the Brevard Music Center.
A graduate of Northwestern University, Murphy received a Bachelor of Music degree in clarinet performance and went on to earn a Master of Music degree in clarinet performance from the University of Houston. Her teachers include Mark Nuccio, Rob Patterson, Steve Cohen, J. Lawrie Bloom, Paul Cigan and Lynda Dembowski.
