Staff Sergeant Alan Matteri is a trumpet player with the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West, Travis AFB, CA. Originally from Benicia, CA, his Air Force career began in 2016.
SSgt Matteri is a 2013 graduate of California State University, East Bay, Hayward, CA where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a minor in Marketing graduating with Magna Cum Laude Honors. In 2016, he received his Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from San Francisco Conservatory of Music. His teachers include Ronald Blais (The USAF Band – Washington D.C. – Retired), Jeff Biancalana (SF Symphony), Adam Luftman (SF Opera & Ballet), Ray Riccomini (Metropolitan Opera), Thomas Booth (Dallas Symphony – Retired), and Ray Mase (Julliard & American Brass Quintet). Since 2012, SSgt Matteri has performed throughout the San Francisco Bay Area with various regional orchestras including Modesto Symphony, Vallejo Symphony, Livermore Valley Opera, etc. He has also served as an extra musician for the Philharmonia Orchestra of London and has experience performing regularly with a professional funk band from 2012-2016. During his graduate studies, he worked on recording projects for Sony Interactive Entertainment in San Mateo as well as attending the 2015 Round Top Music Festival in Texas & the 2016 Aspen Music Festival in Colorado.
Since joining the Band of the Golden West in 2017, SSgt Matteri has continued to perform with professional ensembles in the SF Bay Area, including Berkeley Symphony, Stockton Symphony, North State Symphony, Oakland Symphony, & San Francisco Ballet. Additionally in 2019, he won the 2nd Trumpet audition for the Santa Cruz Symphony and in 2022 he won the Associate Principal Trumpet audition for the Boise Philharmonic.
During his AF career, he has performed with Pentatonix, The Go-Gos, and Nile Rodgers & Chic. Furthermore, he has made an appearance on the ESPN Monday Night Football halftime show for the San Francisco 49ers, performed on the set of The Price is Right, performed at the 2023 NAMM Show, and has been featured as a soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
